Whereabout and Whatabouts

Meet the Instructor
Amanda McKinney grew up immersed in dance with her mother teaching dance classes out of their home studio through her childhood. Attending college, Amanda was first introduced to Pilates from the school's intramural department and instantly found her match. Pilates transformed her posture and physique into a strong yet feminine stature. She became devoted to her craft and loves sharing the many benefits of practicing Pilates. Amanda advocates that Pilates is a new mothers best friend, it's the perfect form of exercise to help shed pounds and to re-sculpt the core muscles which may have separated through pregnancy. She is certified through the PhysicalMind Institute and has taken prenatal training through Sweet Pea's Yoga Studio. Amanda apprenticed at River North Pilates and teaches private and group lessons on the Pilates Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and auxiliary equipment at Fitness Formula Club.
Baby & Me Pilates
Designed for new mothers of babies 4 weeks to crawling. Pregnancy and childbirth take a toll on the mid-section but Pilates can help solve that problem! Pilates is famous for strengthening and toning the mid-section. Abdominals separated from a diastasis during pregnancy can be sculpted together again and modified exercises for those with c-sections will strengthen weakened abs. This class is great for beginners and intermediates, modifications are offered for all poses so everyone can work at their own pace. We intersperse the class with song and games and end with baby stretches. A great class for quality time, a great workout and meeting other new moms!
Pilates Playdate
This class is for the mothers of toddlers! Mom can get her workout while the wee one interacts with other toddlers. We start the class with a song and intersperse the hour with fun songs and games and end with bubbles and a goodbye song. But this class is primarily focused on mom getting a workout! We start with stretches to alleviate strained muscles from carrying our growing toddlers and do a full body strengthening workout to tone and build muscle. And of course nannies, grannies, daddies and mannies are welcome too!
StrollerMamas
Stroll around Lincoln Park Zoo and chat it up with your classmates while enjoying the fresh air. We meet at the Seals for 15 minutes of stretching before moving on to get our cardio and then we keep our heart rate up with a power walk around the park ending with abwork and cooldown stretches. This is no sissy stuff! Don't forget your stroller and comfy shoes. Any stroller will do!
